Guatemalan Coffee
Guatemalan coffee is a huge part of Guatemala's culture, economy, and geography. For these reasons I have decided to put coffee all by itself. To start off coffee makes up 30% percent of all of Guatemala's exports. In this section I will tell all about the places where coffee is grown in Guatemala, what that coffee is, and almost all about it. Most of Guatemala's coffee is grown along the southern edge of the broad central mountainous region. This can give dameage to the coffee that is being grown. Antigua, Fraijanes Plateau, Rainforest Coban, Highland Huehuetenango, Atitlan, Volcan San Marcos, Oriente are some of the main coffee growing places. Here are detailed paragraphs on three of these places above.
Atitlan-
Atitlan is built around the Lake Atitlan. It has a very high altitude of 4,ooo to 5,900 feet which makes pests and diseases have a low ocurrence. The main coffee, although more are grown, is Bourbon. Atitlan coffees are often very aromatic and are harvested in the times of December and March.
Antigua-
Antigua is known for exeptional coffees. The coffee grown there is known asto have "full and velvety body, a rich and lively aroma, and a fine acidity." (Coffee) The beans are harvested in the times of January to March.
Volcan San Marcos-
Volcan San Marcos is the warmest place in Guatemala to grow coffee. It also has the most intense times of rain. The coffee's it grows are Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai which are harvested from December to March.
